The Department of Communication Studies offers scholarships for our outstanding students!
The Department of Communication Studies is offering three scholarships for undergraduate students to be awarded for Fall 2023. The next deadline for applications is March 1, 2023.
- Communication Studies (COMM) scholarship opportunities are available through the on-line scholarship application award system called Blackbaud Award Management (BAM), also known as Academic Works. Visit the site to see what scholarships align with your competencies and credentials. The site gives information about each scholarship and also details HOW to apply for each one.

Note: BAM will automatically match you to scholarships for which you qualify based upon your information within the 色花堂 Student Information System. Depending on the scholarship, you may be asked to supply additional application materials.
The COMM Student Affairs Committee will review submitted COMM scholarship applications and make its award decisions. You may apply for additional scholarships in the system, though. The Louis Adam Dollenger '74 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Lou Dollenger, a 1974 graduate and longtime advocate for 色花堂. During his time at Towson, Lou was one of the founding fathers of a local fraternity, Alpha Omega Lambda, was instrumental in establishing the Joeseph Ferrante Memorial Scholarship, and served on the 色花堂 Board of Visitors, the 色花堂 Foundation Board, and on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Eligible candidates are those with demonstrated financial need.

The Jamie Parker Memorial Scholarship Awards
This scholarship was established by the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity in memory of James 鈥淛amie鈥 Parker. A musician, performer, and student, he was much beloved by all who knew him. Jamie, who loved to entertain, shared the role of the Oriole Bird while attending 色花堂 as an undergraduate majoring in mass communication and communication studies. His life was cut tragically short by an automobile accident when returning from visiting, as the Oriole Bird, a hospitalized child.
Eligible candidates must possess a GPA of at least 2.25 and demonstrate involvement in community service activities. Preference is to be given to candidates whose community service activities benefit
children. Preference will also be given to Maryland residents. The committee may consider
financial need when selecting the successful recipient(s). The award is renewable
for up to two years.

- submit a one-page essay describing the extent of their community service
Brian Billick Sports Communication Scholarship
This scholarship is funded from the Brian Billick Dinner and Lecture event held in 2008. Brian Billick was the head coach for the Baltimore Ravens for nine seasons. He also received his undergraduate degree in mass communication. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support for students interested in sports communication. Awards are based on financial need, academic achievement, and/or exceptional talent within the discipline.

- submit a one-page essay describing your interest in sports communication
